Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity of people and thought is a part of EBRC's fabric and a key to our research success. The ambitious aims of synthetic biology can only be realized by a research community whose diversity reflects that of the communities it endeavors to benefit. It is the responsibility of every member of EBRC to consider and advance practices that best promote diversity and inclusion.
One of the ways that we aim to acheive this goal is by providing information and resources to our community. Check out the EBRC Diversity Resources Page to find lists of blogs websites and articles that are focused on diversity and inclusion in STEM. If you have any suggestions for articles, please let us know.
We encourage a gender-balanced podium. Women are chronically underrepresented at the podium of science meetings. Besides being outright discouraging, this may also perpetuate the known bias against female scientists. EBRC offers a database of women speakers in synthetic biology related fields, and a template letter you can use to encourage conference organizers to improve female representation in their speaker selection.
